Design a logo for the Eau Claire Marathon’s Fantastically Fun Kids Run that was cohesive with the EC Marathon logo and honored the life of an inspirational woman
The Story
Being that my hometown is Eau Claire, Wisconsin, I was more than honored to be asked to be part of their new venture: The EC Marathon. I was put in charge of designing the logo for the Fantastically Fun Kids Run, which is dedicated to the life of Cheri Uelmen – an inspirational teacher and athlete, well known in the Eau Claire community. Working with Race Directory Emi was a great experience and her energy and passion for what she was doing was positively contagious. We knew we wanted to stick with the “branding” of the established EC Marathon logo, but also wanted the Kids Run logo to be fun, energetic, and have a touch of In Memoriam. I chose the red ribbon (because what kid doesn’t love crossing that finish line?) as the main highlight and tested out angel wings, a sunshine and a halo to represent Cheri. The halo was the most subtle, and stood out with its yellow color. We loved the end result and I feel that it does her spirit great justice. She loved to race and even more so, she loved kids. What a wonderful dedication to her life, and I’m so happy to have gotten to be a small piece of it all.
